FIFA U20 WWC: Grade one friendlies, early preparations key to Falconets success, Okon says

Former Falconets coach, Edwin Okon believes grade one friendlies and early preparations will help the team’s campaign at the U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Okon said this following Falconets 8-0 aggregate thrashing of the Basetsanas of South Africa  to qualify for the mundial in France.

The Rivers Angels handler who led the U-20 team to finish in fourth place in Japan 2012, while congratulating the team highlighted the need for adequate preparations as key to having an outstanding performance.

“What matters in any competition, either at a local league or international event is early and adequate preparations.

” A number of friendlies with top football playing countries will also prepare the team with what is expected at the world cup.

“Nigeria has made name when it comes to female football in the continent but to conquer the world, we need to be extra brilliant.

” I believe that this present crop of players have what it takes to deliver,” he added.

Nigeria, having not missed out of the tournament since its inception in 2002, will join the Black Princesses of Ghana as Africa’s torchbearers when the event begins from Aug.5 to Aug. 24.
