U20WWC: Danjuma describes Falconets draw as fair

Christopher Danjuma, coach of Nigeria’s Falconets has described the draws which place the team against Germany, China and Haiti as being fair.

Danjuma said onThursday in Abuja that the Group D rivals are strong teams but will prepare his team to be mentally ready.

The team will begin its campaign against the tournament’s favourites Germany on Aug. 6, a team who won three out of the eight editions of the event.

Nigeria had lost the title in Canada 2014 to the German by a lone goal.

``The group is fair. For any team to qualify to this stage means that they are a strong side.

``What we need in this level of the world cup is for the players to be mentally tough and not encourage fear no matter who the opponent is.

``We will work as hard as possible because the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the chairperson Women Committee is doing all to ensure that we have quality preparations,’’ he said.

Meanwhile the opening game will see the other Africa torch bearer Ghana slug it out with hosts France on Aug. 5 with New Zealand and Netherlands in Group A.

Group B has Korea DPR, England, Mexico and Brazil as foes while Group C has USA, Japan, Paraguay and Spain.

The ninth edition of the tournament is billed for Aug. 5 to Aug. 24, France.
